Proper Essential Oil Dilution

Hey there, fellow essential oil lovers! Are you ready to learn about proper dilution? It may not be the most thrilling topic, but trust us, it's important for your health and safety.

First and foremost, essential oils are extremely potent. They are highly concentrated plant extracts, which means that just a few drops can go a long way. In fact, using them undiluted can lead to skin irritation, allergic reactions, and even toxicity.

So how do we dilute essential oils? It's actually quite simple. You can mix them with a carrier oil, such as almond, coconut, or jojoba oil. This helps to spread the essential oil over a larger area, while also reducing the intensity of its effects.

The general rule of thumb is to use a 2% dilution rate for adults. This means that for every 1 teaspoon of carrier oil, you should add 6 drops of essential oil. For children and the elderly, it's recommended to use a 1% dilution rate.

Now, some of you may be thinking, "But I want to use more essential oil for better results!" Friends, we hear you, and we understand. However, more is not always better in the world of aromatherapy. Using too much of an essential oil can actually lead to adverse effects, rather than the intended benefits.

In addition to carrier oils, you can also dilute essential oils in other products, such as lotions, creams, and bath salts. Just remember to always do a patch test before applying any product to your skin, and to follow proper dilution guidelines.

At Harmony Aromatherapy, we take dilution seriously. We only sell pure essential oils, and we provide detailed instructions on how to properly dilute them for safe use.
